Magazine submissions

I've been sorting a few photographs out on my PC and came across a folder with some of my magazine submissions in.

I don't think I have blogged about all of these before, and I cannot remember much detail about them now, so I will just share the photos with a few words.

Stardust Earrings

Cube Bracelet, I got front cover of Bead for this one.

Zesty Necklace, with beads made by Tan Grey.

Four Seasons choker.  Had lots of fun with this piece, loads of embellishment.

Slave Bracelet, not a very politically correct title and for that I apologise.

Chocolate & Marshmallow Discs.

Flower Cabochon Pendant, one of those decorative pebbles you can buy in homeware stores, beaded around.

A twisty sapphire blue beaded necklace with a Murano heart focal.

Figaro Chain earrings, dangly and interesting, but without being heavy.

Lillybells bracelet.  A mixture of beadwork and stringing.  Each glass bead is nestled in it's own little beaded cup.

One of my favourites.   A lucite flower bracelet with a watch face.  Very full, bustling with colour.

Loop Earrings.  I loved making these, they remind me of a Spanish dancer doll I had when I was young.

Gemstone Twist - you said tumblestones were uncomfortable?  Not when they are sewn into a spiral with seed beads.

Blueberry Cluster, a very heavy piece with various sizes of glass cats-eye beads.  Incredibly tactile.

And I will leave you with this one, my Daisy Chain.  This piece can be made as long or as short as you like, and it is threaded together like you would a real daisy chain.

If you would like any of these patterns, I am sure I will still have them somewhere, just ask and I will email then over  :)

Japanese Delica Dolly

Let me introduce you to Mizuki (Japanese meaning: - Beautiful / Moon)

This piece was originally thought up for the Bead Buddies Forum Japanese Challenge.

She is made in Miyuki Delica Cylinder beads, which are very uniformed and lay beautifully when stitched together, but they need patience and lots & lots of time. She took a good few hours to complete :)

If you would like to have a go and make her yourself, you can find the pattern in Bead Magazine - Issue 21, out this week.

I would be very interested in seeing how you get on if you decide to have a go. Email me your pictures to thebeadshed@gmail.com and I will show them in a blog, and send you a little gift :)

Disc Necklace / Beads & Beyond Aug 2009

Another submission, this one I called Chocolate & Marshmallow, and it consists of a series of complimenting BRICK STITCH (not Peyote as it states in the magazine) discs - each with a Swarovski Crystal centre.

The beauty is you can make as few or as many as you like, varying sizes and colour, and just hang them from a ready made polyster chain - funky !

Featured in Beads & Beyond August 2009, page 26.

Blueberry Cluster- Making Jewellery (4)

Making Jewellery Magazine, issue 4.

Chuffed to see my "Blueberry Cluster" design in the Supplement.

Made using varying sizes of Cats Eye Beads in 4mm, 6mm & 8mm, in a rich Royal Blue.

Each single bead was threaded on a pin and attached to a cable chain, its very bold, tactile, and heavy - you just have to shake it from hand to hand when you hold it :)

I would say it was around 300 pins in total, so it took a little while to make, I won't be making another in a hurry :)

"Lilly Bells" Bracelet in B&B Magazine.

The New issue of Beads & Beyond has just popped through the door, and my "Lilly Bells" bracelet is featured :)

It combines Beadweaving with stringing.

I loved doing this bracelet, it is so delicate, but so lovely to make. Wether you make the cups in a solid colourway, or a mix, it can look equally as good.

I notice a stray thread in the photo on page 29 though, it is annoying me immensly, I might not have to look again :)
Let me know if you make one, I would be very interested to see :)

Bead 16 Magazine - Front Cover :)

I am like a dog with two tails, I got front cover of Bead Magazine :) (mine is the cerise pink and lime green ones)

Of course I knew the bracelet pattern was going to be in, but imagine the thrill when the box of magazines arrived for my shop and there was my bracelet staring back at me in full glorious colour :)

It is a RAW (Right Angle Weave) design with 4mm cubes surrounded by seed beads, really easy to wear and you can make it as wide or as thin as you like.

I also made this in cream and bronze, it looks totally different.

Will sign copies for £25.00 :) (God loves a trier :D )

Bead Trends Magazine - March 2009

I am very excited about this, my very first submission to an American Magazine.

This is 'Netted Flames' a Netting / Ogalala stitch, in rich reds and oranges to look like dancing flames, it also looks good in blues and a touch of white for waves.

Making Jewellery Magazine May 09

The first issue and it has a piece of mine in :)

I went right back to stringing basics with this design, but used classy componants such as fresh water pearls, swarovski crystal, sterling silver and a slice of agate.

Easy to make, easy to source, but eyecatching :)

Page 58 I believe. :)

Beads & Beyond Project - Issue 19

This is about my 12th magazine submission, but my first since starting to blog, and I can't very well backtrack and mention them all so I will start here :)

A simple set for using up all your old bits and bobs, as long as you have three of each bead so your earrings and pendant match, you can almost use anything and everything.

I did this in glass pearls, various colours and various sizes, the beauty of pieces like this is that they will go with almost anything in your wardrobe.
If you fancy having a go, you can find it in April 2009 Issue 19 of Beads & Beyond.
